Premium Hardwoods

At The Little Conservatory Company, we use high-quality hardwoods like Sapele, Idigbo, and Oak. These woods are not only beautiful but also strong and well-suited for conservatory construction. For added durability and strength, we can incorporate subtle aluminum elements. Sapele has a deep, reddish grain that takes paint and stain beautifully, Idigbo is lighter and exceptionally stable across larger openings, and oak brings a weight and character that mellows with age.

Our team can help you choose the perfect type of wood to match your vision and the style of your home.

Thermal Efficiency

Energy Efficient Design

Our timber conservatories are designed for excellent thermal efficiency, ensuring a comfortable living space year-round. We achieve this through the natural insulating properties of timber itself, combined with double glazing and carefully designed roof systems. This reduces heat loss in winter and prevents overheating in summer, keeping your conservatory comfortable.

Bespoke Timber Joinery

Whether you’re restoring a period property or adding a touch of classic charm to a modern home, timber offers a sense of elegance that’s hard to beat.

At The Little Conservatory Company, we have a multi-skilled team under one roof. This means that we can offer all the bespoke joinery you may need for your project, from beautiful wooden windows and doors to the perfect decorative finishing touches. If you have a design idea in mind, contact us to discuss with our expert design team. Because the joinery is handled in-house, windows and doors can be made to match the conservatory rather than sourced separately and approximated.

Customisation Options

Choose from classic styles such as Edwardian, Victorian, Gable and Lean To, or choose something entirely unique. We can also provide beautiful timber windows and doors to install alongside your conservatory for a unified aesthetic.

You can find out more by getting in touch with our team – we’ll be more than happy to discuss your exact vision for your space.

Can you make a conservatory out of wood?

Yes! Timber conservatories can be made of wooden frames, with different building materials like brick or plaster, or they can have timber cladding in addition to the frame. Timber frames are typically much quicker to build because they are not affected by adverse weather. Get in touch with our team to learn about the different options and find the perfect solution for your home.

Should a conservatory be hardwood or softwood?

We build in hardwood. Softwood moves more with the weather and needs recoating far more often, which shows quickly on a large glazed structure. Hardwoods such as Sapele, Idigbo and oak are denser, hold their shape, and looked after properly will outlast the rest of the joinery in the house.

How long do wooden conservatories last?

Hardwood conservatories can last a lifetime with proper maintenance and care. This includes staining and potentially applying polyurethane as needed, depending on the amount of rainfall you receive. Keep in mind that keeping a timber conservatory in good condition can also improve your house value and ensure that you enjoy your living space for decades.

How do you maintain a wooden conservatory?

Good question! This can depend on whether or not you’re looking for a ‘weathered’ wooden conservatory. However, if you are looking to maintain the colour and vibrancy, we think there are a few key steps to maintaining your timber conservatory:

Attend to the guttering every year. The best maintenance is frequent maintenance. But this doesn’t have to be exhaustive. Make sure that you’re keeping up with the guttering and not allowing things to build up.

Re-coat every few years. With regular re-coats, you can ensure that your timber conservatory stays watertight and weather resistant. Simply do a little maintenance once a year or every three years to protect the wood and provide regular maintenance. Certain woods, like oak, will need to be recoated more regularly than others.

Rub down with fine wire wool & refinish every few years. If you don’t want a weathered appearance, this is the most important part of maintaining your timber conservatory. Eventually, you, or someone you hire, can rub down the timber, re-stain, and re-coat the wood to give it a healthy and natural appearance.

Is a bespoke timber conservatory expensive?

The cost of a timber conservatory can vary based on factors like size, design complexity and the finishes chosen. Generally, timber conservatories might be slightly more expensive initially compared to some other materials, but they can help boost your property’s value and offer an aesthetic appeal that many find worthwhile. A timber structure can also be repaired and refinished rather than replaced, which is where the initial difference tends to even out. For an idea of how much your dream conservatory would cost, please get in touch with our team or call 01242 681207 – we’ll be happy to provide a no-obligation quote.

Can I use a timber conservatory all year round?

Timber itself provides excellent natural insulation, and when combined with high-quality glazing and proper seals, timber conservatories offer fantastic energy efficiency. This means that they are suitable for use all year round.

Do I need planning permission for my timber conservatory?

In most cases, you will not need planning permission for your new conservatory. However, if your plans are close to the edge of the property, speak with our team for more information. We are more than happy to help you navigate any planning permissions you might need and provide you with expert advice.
