Free ConsultationWhether you’re planning a brand new conservatory, an orangery, a home extension, or looking to replace an existing roof, choosing the right roofing system is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. The roof defines how comfortable your space will be, how much natural light it lets in, how it looks from the outside, and how much it costs to heat. Get it right and you’ll have a room you love using every day.
At The Little Conservatory Company, we offer a range of conservatory roof systems to suit every home, lifestyle, and budget. We work with homeowners across Cheltenham, Cirencester, Stroud, Worcester, and the wider Gloucestershire area, and every project is bespoke, designed around your specific needs and the character of your home.
This page gives you an overview of the roof options we offer and helps you understand which might be the right fit for you. Where you’d like more detail, each option has its own dedicated page with full information.
Tiled and Solid Roofs: Ultraroof by Ultraframe
A tiled conservatory roof is the warmest and most thermally efficient option available, transforming your conservatory into a genuine year-round room. It’s the ideal choice for homeowners who want maximum comfort, lower energy bills, and a room that truly feels like part of the house.
Hybrid Roofs: Livinroof by Ultraframe
Can’t decide between a solid roof and a glass roof? The Livinroof hybrid system gives you the best of both. Combining insulated solid panels with fully configurable glass panels, Livinroof delivers the warmth and privacy of a solid roof alongside natural light exactly where you want it.
Glass Roofs: Ultraframe Glass Roof System
For homeowners who want to flood their space with natural light and stay beautifully connected to the garden, a glass roof is a wonderful choice. It’s also worth knowing that a like-for-like glass roof replacement typically doesn’t require building control approval, making it one of the most straightforward upgrade options available.
Roof Lanterns: Atlas SkyRoom
The Atlas SkyRoom is a premium aluminium roof lantern system, perfectly suited to flat or low-pitch structures such as orangeries, kitchen extensions, and garden rooms. Sleek, contemporary, and beautifully engineered, the SkyRoom floods your space with natural light from above and makes a striking architectural statement. It’s an ideal choice where a traditional pitched roof isn’t appropriate.
Flat Roofs: Hup! Warm Flat Roof System
The Hup! warm flat roof system is a practical and stylish solution for conservatories and extensions with a flat or near-flat roofline. Hup! is an excellent replacement option for certain conservatory styles where a pitched roof system isn’t suitable.
Replacement Conservatory Roofs
If you’re looking to replace an existing conservatory roof, whether it’s an old polycarbonate roof, a tired glass system, or something else entirely, we can help. Replacing your roof is one of the most impactful home improvements you can make, transforming a cold, noisy, and underused space into a comfortable room you’ll love all year round.
With several excellent options available, the right choice depends on your home, your lifestyle, and what you want from the space. Here’s a quick guide to help you think it through:
Maximum warmth and year-round comfort? A tiled roof is likely your best option, delivering the highest thermal performance of any system we offer.
Natural light with better thermal performance? A hybrid roof strikes the perfect balance, combining solid panels with configurable glazing for warmth and brightness in equal measure.
Light, garden views, and a simpler installation? A glass roof could be ideal, particularly for north, east, or west-facing conservatories. For south-facing rooms, a tiled or hybrid roof may be more comfortable in summer.
A flat or low-pitch structure? The Atlas SkyRoom or Hup! flat roof system may be the most suitable option depending on your conservatory’s design.
Replacing an existing roof? Any of the above systems can be used as a replacement roof. We’ll carry out a structural assessment to confirm which options are suitable for your existing frame.
Not sure where to start? Our friendly team will ask the right questions and offer honest, straightforward advice with no pressure and no obligation.
One of the most common questions we’re asked is whether a new or replacement conservatory roof requires planning permission or building regulations approval. Here’s a brief overview to help you understand the key considerations:
Building Regulations
Whether building control approval is required depends on the type of roof you choose. Replacing an existing polycarbonate or glass roof with a solid, tiled, or hybrid system reclassifies your conservatory as a single storey extension, which means the project must comply with building regulations and be signed off by building control. A like-for-like glass roof replacement, on the other hand, typically doesn’t trigger building control, making it a simpler and more straightforward process.
Planning Permission
Building regulations and planning permission are two entirely separate things. Planning permission depends on individual factors including your property type, location, and whether permitted development rights apply. Properties in conservation areas, which are common across the Cotswolds and Gloucestershire, or listed buildings, may be subject to different rules. We’d always recommend discussing your specific circumstances with us directly rather than making assumptions, and we’ll confirm exactly what applies to your project from the very first consultation.
We Handle Everything on Your Behalf
The most important thing to know is that you won’t need to navigate any of this alone. Where building regulations approval or planning permission is required, our team manages the entire process on your behalf, drawing on extensive local knowledge across Cheltenham, Cirencester, Stroud, and the wider Gloucestershire area.
We've answered some commonly asked questions to help you make an informed decision about your home improvement project. If you have any other questions, please get in touch!
Contact UsWe offer a comprehensive range of conservatory roof systems to suit every home, lifestyle, and budget. These include the Ultraroof tiled system, the Livinroof hybrid system, the Ultraframe Glass Roof System, the Atlas SkyRoom roof lantern, and the Hup! warm flat roof system. Each has its own dedicated page with full details to help you make an informed decision.
The Ultraroof tiled system offers the highest thermal performance, with a U-value of 0.15 as standard. However, all of the roof systems we install offer a significant improvement in energy efficiency compared to older polycarbonate or single-glazed glass roofs.
A glass roof lets in the most natural light, closely followed by a hybrid roof with configurable glass panels. If maximum light is your priority, the Ultraframe Glass Roof System is the obvious choice. If you want a balance of light and warmth, the Livinroof hybrid system is worth considering.
South-facing conservatories receive direct sunlight for much of the day, which can cause overheating with a fully glazed roof. For south-facing rooms, a tiled or hybrid roof is often the more comfortable choice, as the solid panels help regulate temperature and reduce solar gain. We’d always recommend discussing your conservatory’s orientation with us so we can advise on the best option.
In most cases, yes. All of the roof systems we offer can be used as replacement roofs, subject to a structural assessment of your existing conservatory frame. Our Ultraframe systems are among the lightest replacement roofs on the market, making them suitable for the majority of existing frames.
It depends on the type of roof you choose. Replacing an existing roof with a solid, tiled, or hybrid system reclassifies your conservatory as a single storey extension, which means building regulations approval is required. A like-for-like glass roof replacement typically doesn’t trigger building control. We’ll confirm what applies to your specific project during the consultation.
In most cases, no. Conservatory roof replacements and new installations typically fall under permitted development. However, this depends on individual circumstances, and properties in conservation areas or listed buildings may be subject to different rules. We’d always recommend discussing your specific situation with us directly rather than making assumptions.
A hybrid conservatory roof combines solid insulated panels with fully configurable glass panels in a single roof system. It gives you the warmth and thermal performance of a solid roof alongside natural light exactly where you want it. The Ultraframe Livinroof is the hybrid system we install and is the most configurable solid roof system on the market.
The Hup! is a warm flat roof system designed for conservatories and extensions with a flat or near-flat roofline. It offers outstanding thermal performance and a clean, contemporary finish, making it an excellent option for homes where a pitched roof system isn’t suitable.
