Most of our projects at The Little Conservatory Company take between 8 and 12 weeks from initial consultation to completed installation. The installation itself takes just 2 to 5 days on site.
The good news? Most of that time is planning, which we handle for you. This detailed guide walks you through the entire process stage by stage. For budgets, see our cost guide.

How long does it take to replace a conservatory roof?
A typical conservatory roof replacement project with us takes 8 to 12 weeks in total. Just 2 to 5 days of that is spent on site. The rest covers your consultation, quotation and any approvals, with timings depending on the size of the conservatory and the complexity of the installation.
Your timeline, stage by stage
Every home is different, so use this general timeline as your guide. We confirm the specific details of the project at the quotation stage, so you’ll have accurate timescales right from the start.
Stage 1: your enquiry and a free quote
It all starts with a quick call or our online contact form. We’ll get back to you quickly to arrange a convenient time to chat and then give you a free, no-obligation quote along with initial guidance on the right type of roof.
This is the perfect moment to ask your first questions. Got an underused conservatory? We’ll talk you through which type of replacement roof will turn it into a part of your home you’ll love using all year round. We also supply uPVC and aluminium windows and doors, so if you’re interested, we’ll happily talk you through these options too.
Stage 2: your design consultation and site survey
Next, we’ll visit you for a personalised one-to-one consultation. Our designer takes measurements and gets to know your existing space. This site survey is an important part of any roof replacement.
A solid roof, even a modern lightweight system, is heavier than a glazed one, so we check that your existing conservatory roof frames are structurally sound enough to support the new system. Where needed, we also assess the dwarf walls and footings and bring in a structural engineer to confirm load-bearing capacity. It’s all about structural safety and your peace of mind.
You’ll then receive a detailed quotation with clear costings and a proposed timeline.

Stage 3: approvals and preparation
Once you’re happy to go ahead, we’ll take care of the planning and paperwork for you. Your dedicated project manager coordinates everything from design approval through to installation completion and remains your single point of contact throughout.
Switching to a solid or hybrid roof means your conservatory becomes a single-storey extension under UK building regulations, so building control sign-off is required. We handle any necessary planning applications or building regulations on your behalf.
According to the UK Government’s Planning Portal, your local council normally has up to 5 weeks to make a decision on building regulations plans. A like-for-like glass roof replacement typically doesn’t need building control approval, making it one of the quickest ways to get to installation.
Stage 4: installation in 2 to 5 days
Because we work with your existing structure rather than starting a full extension build, this stage is refreshingly quick. With decades of experience behind us, we’re a professional installer you can rely on. Our skilled installation team arrives on time, works to keep disruption to a minimum and gives you regular progress updates throughout the build.
The installation time depends on the system you choose. Our hybrid system takes about 1 to 3 days to fit, depending on complexity and the weather. As an approved Ultraframe installer, we fit Ultraframe’s solid, hybrid and glass systems featured below.
Stage 5: handover and aftercare
Once everything is in place, we’ll give you a thorough handover, explaining how everything works. Then it’s time to enjoy your new space, knowing our aftercare team is just a phone call away whenever you need help.
What affects the timeline?
These are the main factors behind your timeline estimate:
- The size of the conservatory
- The type of roof replacement you choose: glass, hybrid or solid
- The complexity of your design
- Any planning permission or building regulations approval needed
- Any reinforcement needed to the existing base
- The weather on installation days
Choosing the right replacement conservatory roof
Choosing the system depends on how you plan to use the room. Your choice shapes the timeline as well as how you’ll use the room. We offer professional installation of:
- Ultraroof (solid): excellent thermal performance and thermal control to minimise heat loss, with a U-value of 0.15 as standard and the option of roof windows for natural light
- Livinroof (hybrid): insulated solid panels for excellent insulation, combined with configurable glazing so you get light where you want it
- Classic Roof (glass): modern glass conservatory roofs for maximum light, with solar-control glass to reduce glare
- Hup!: a warm flat roofing system for conservatories and extensions with flat or near-flat designs
If energy efficiency is your priority, you’ll be pleased to know a new roof can reduce the energy needed to heat the room by up to 90%. That means reduced energy loss, lower heating costs and a more comfortable living environment all year round, making it a smart investment in your home.

Frequently asked questions
Will I need planning permission?
Most roof replacements don’t need planning permission, provided the overall dimensions and use don’t change. Many projects fall under permitted development rights, depending on your property and location. We assess this during your home visit, so you’ll know where you stand from the start.
What happens if the weather is bad on installation day?
Weather can occasionally affect installation days. If it does, we’ll keep you fully informed and adjust the schedule accordingly.
Do your installations come with a guarantee?
Yes. Our installations come with comprehensive guarantees covering materials and workmanship. The specific details vary depending on the products you choose. We explain these during your consultation.
