We were asked by a client to supply and install five hardwood factory-finished vertical sliding windows and, in the process, convert the French Doors on this orangery. With years of experience building conservatories, orangeries and extensions, we were able to balance the existing character and elegance of this structure with new windows and a refined new look. The finished result was an elevated space that still echoed the original exterior of the orangery and harmonised with the elegance of the property itself.

Beginning the project
As ever, attention to detail was at the forefront when beginning this project. Knowing how important accurate measurements are, we began by dismantling the exterior panels so that we could get precise measurements for the cladding facades and trims. We then securely fastened these panels back to the structure temporarily until the new panels could be fabricated. Â This meant that our client could continue to enjoy their space until the building work started.
We then began the installation of five hardwood factory-finished vertical sliders, with one of these windows replacing the original French Doors. Our work included corner posts, external covers, bottom panels, and top facias. We took care of every detail from start to finish, including the plaster boards and plastering.
Sapele wood vertical sliders
Our beautiful timber windows are carefully crafted with Sapele wood from Africa (a wood that emulates the characteristics of mahogany). Weatherproof and elegant, our timber windows paid tribute to the traditional feel of this orangery, and our refreshed cladding facades and trims added a touch of contemporary style.
Complete with brass fittings, our vertical sliding windows are “A” rated double-glazed units. With low-E glass, argon gas and a warm edge spacer bar, these windows will help maintain comfortable temperatures in this orangery. The replacement of the French Doors with a new vertical sliding window will also enhance the orangery’s thermal efficiency, making the space useable throughout the seasons.

Thanks to our attention to detail, the finished result was a beautifully enhanced orangery that had a subtly refreshed and rejuvenated look. By paying close attention to the finishing touches, we both revived the style of this orangery and ensured that it remains thermally efficient for years to come.
